The hardiest of all the date palms, this palm survived -6C in a show garden without any protection.

This rare species is only known from a few small sites on the Greek island of Crete and in southern Turkey. It is somewhat similar to the true Date Palm but has a particularly compact appearance with silvery-gray, spiky leaves and clustering trunks.
