The eucalyptus gunnii is an elegant, fast growing tree and hails from Australia. It has an aromatic foliage whose oils are often used to aid respiratory problems. This large evergreen has decorative peeling cream and brown bark. Perhaps its most attractive feature is its glaucous blue, leaves which are rounded when young and become sickle shaped in adulthood. Small clusters of attractive flowers are produced.
It is moderately hardy, surviving to around -10C without protection. It can also be kept as a pot-plant but should then be brought indoors in winter. It can be pruned rigorously, but if you want a large tree this is not necessary! Plant this beauty in a moderately nutrient soil in sun or part-shade. It tolerates drought well.
Enjoy your eucalyptus; the gorgeous glaucous blue of the leaves, the rustling of the leaves in the breeze, the beautiful bark and flowers and the occasional pruned branch in a bouquet!
