The Macedonian pine is a fast growing conifer tree that is usually cone-shaped. It has a smooth or scaly bark that is brown or grey coloured, in combination with green branches and needles. This pine also has the typical pinecones, which are light brown or red brown of colour. 

It is very winter hardy and can adapt to many different conditions. The pine is used for afforestation in mountainous areas, as well as protection against erosion. The wood itself has many uses, like carving and carpentry. The resin is often used for medicinal uses.
